MALE BRAZILIAN WAXING – FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is Brazilian waxing?
The male Brazilian wax (also known as the back, sac and crack) involves the removal of hair from the groin, penis, scrotum, buttocks and anal area. You may, of course, request that your therapist removes as much or as little hair as you like, and the price will be adjusted accordingly.
Will it hurt?
Our policy is to remove the hair as quickly and painlessly as possible, and our highly skilled technician is regarded as one of the best in the business. We'd be telling porky-pies if we said it didn't sting at all, but most clients agree that the discomfort is nowhere near as bad as they anticipated, and reduces even further with regular appointments.
Will it feel uncomfortable afterwards?
Slight soreness, small bumps and redness are common temporary reactions, particularly if this is your first wax. These should subside within a few hours, and many people find that regular waxing results in less irritation. Applying an antiseptic cream to the area for a few days after your appointment will help to soothe and protect the skin.
Are there any conditions that will prevent me from getting waxed?
Contagious skin conditions will prevent us from waxing the affected area until the condition has completely cleared. Clients taking Roaccutane must wait 6 months after finishing their medication before receiving a waxing treatment. We are also unable to remove hair from skin that is sunburnt, chafed or broken, or from skin that has been treated with steroid creams within the last 3 months.
We do not recommend having your first Brazilian wax immediately before a special occasion or holiday, as the treated area may look and feel a little sore afterwards - better to play it safe and allow a few days for things to settle down before surprising your unsuspecting partner or adoring public.
How should I prepare for my treatment?
Please arrive freshly showered and, if possible, gently exfoliate the area for a few days beforehand. This helps to remove any dead skin cells and lifts the hair for better results. Do not shave or trim the area for at least 3 weeks prior to your appointment, as the hair needs to be at least ½ cm long in order to wax successfully. We will do any necessary trimming for you on the day.
Who will perform the waxing treatment?
Your treatment will be carried out by our resident male technician, Andy, who specialises in the Brazilian waxing technique and is one of the UK's top accredited trainers for this service. Andy's advice is frequently sought by fellow therapists up and down the country, and his many regular clients refuse to entrust their family jewels in the hands of anyone else!
What type of wax do you use?
We use a combination of soft strip wax and peelable hard wax by Perron Rigot, imported all the way from sunny France. The French know a thing or two about waxing, and this stuff is the mutt's nuts - in fact, we refuse to cut corners or skimp on cost by using anything less than the very best on your boys. Hard wax is regarded by many as being more suitable for sensitive skin and delicate areas, but its use is a little known art in the UK. So we shamelessly stole the idea from the French and brought it to the people of Basingstoke. Aren't we good to you?
I'm worried about being naked or becoming aroused
Don't panic! Your therapist is not concerned with the size or shape of your body any more than they are concerned with what car you drive or the colour of your eyes! We aim to make all of our customers feel as comfortable as possible, and understand that you may be feeling nervous. Some clients experience temporary physical arousal in response to the manipulation of their genitals - this is nothing to worry about and usually subsides fairly rapidly. Customers are advised, however, that inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated.
How long will the treatment take?
You should allow 60 minutes for your first treatment, which includes your consultation and homecare advice. Subsequent appointments usually take between 30 and 45 minutes.
How should I care for my skin afterwards?
For 2 days after your appointment, you must avoid heat and friction. This means no hot baths or showers (washing with cool or lukewarm water is fine), no sunbathing, no saunas, hot tubs or steam rooms, no exercise, no sexual activity (sorry chaps!), and no tight clothing that rubs excessively against the skin. You should also avoid swimming and the use of fragranced body lotions or sprays. Got all that? Jolly good.
Your therapist will provide you with an antiseptic cream that you should apply to the freshly waxed skin regularly for 3 days. You will also be given an exfoliating mitt to help prevent ingrown hairs. Starting a few days after your appointment, scrub with the mitt 3 times a week in the bath or shower, then follow with a light slick of moisturiser.
How long will the results last?
This varies from person to person. Unlike shaving or hair removal creams, waxing removes hair by the root - this avoids the discomfort of itchy stubble and your hair will grow back slower, softer and sparser. To maintain your smooth appearance, we recommend waxing regularly every 4 to 5 weeks.
How much does it cost?
We operate a flexible pricing structure, meaning you are always charged fairly according to how much hair you have and how much of it you want removed:
These prices include your homecare products. Please note that a Brazilian treatment does NOT include a back and shoulder wax - if you require this additional service, please book this at the time of making your appointment.
